About AVEL and AVEL SKN

AVEL and AVEL SKN were both freely available subject gateways. Their aim was to provide seamless access to high quality, web-based resources for academics, students and practitioners working in engineering and sustainable development, respectively.

AVEL was one of the first gateways developed in Australia. It was originally funded in 1999 with a Research, Equipment and Infrastructure Fund (REIF) grant from the Australian Research Council (ARC), as well as cash and in-kind contributions from other university partners. Its focus was on the discovery, description and indexing of third-party web-based resources in the areas of engineering and information technology.

AVEL SKN was a logical extension of the AVEL gateway. Its focus was on the area of sustainabilty, as it intersected with engineering.

This website provides information on the history, partners and technical details of the gateways. If you would like further information, please contact us.
