NEW SITES ON AVEL AVEL now contains 3287 quality records. Since our last newsletter we have added another 237 records. THE BEST OF THE BEST AVEL contains links to only quality websites. We handpick them so that you can save time searching. That said, sometimes we find sites that deserve a special mention. This month we focus on a number of websites that showcase research in nanomaterials, we look at some great New Zealand based IT employment services, as well as highlight some of the resources available through the Australian Greenhouse Office. >>NanoMac - The NanoMaterials Centre http://postgrad.cheque.uq.edu.au/research_groups/nanomaterials/index.htm Coming out of the University of Queensland Department of Chemical Engineering, and headed by Professor Max Lu, the NanoMaterials Centre website showcases the exciting research being undertaken in this relatively new centre. Current research focuses on the synthesis, characterisation and use of nanoparticle, nanofilms and nanoporous materials for advanced separation and catalysis, energy storage, as well as microelectronic and electromagnetic applications. >>Australian Workshop on Nanotubes and Fullerenes, May 3-4 2001 http://wwwrsphysse.anu.edu.au/nanotube/awnf2001/index.htm This workshop will be conducted in May 2001, at the Australia National University in Canberra. It aims to promote research activity in Australia by bringing together scientists and engineers from a range of diciplines who are working in the broad area of nanotube and Fullerene-related materials. Fullerenes, nanotubes and related nanomaterials are receiving great interest due to their new mechanical, physical and chemical properties and because of their potential application. >>Asian Technology Information Program (ATIP) http://www.atip.or.jp/ ATIP is based in Japan and aims to promote collaboration between Western and Japanese and other Asian organizations. ATIP offers a wide range of free services, as well as fee-based value added services. The free services include: a comprehensive listing of Asian conferences and a range of reports and detailed analysis on topical issues. These are available for ftp access. There is also a regular newsletter. A new section on Nanotechnology has been added. This provides access to reports, presentations, links, events and news concerning nanotechnology. >>Candle - IT&T Recruitment http://www.candle.co.nz/ This New Zealand based recruitment agency specialises in recruitment for the IT&T Industry. It has offices in Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra and Perth. The website allows you to search for relevant jobs, see the latest jobs, register your profile - so that job matches are automatically forwarded to you. You can register with Candle and submit your resume, and there is also a useful list of resume tips for anyone new to the job market or wanting to update their CV. >>Contract 365 - Computer Contract Jobs http://www.contract365.co.nz/ Contract 365 are IT technical job contract specialists based in New Zealand. Job seekers can search the jobs database, register their details, upload their CV, and manage their own CV files online. Employers who are new to the service can register and post vacancies for free. You can also register for a free email account, or receive regular email alerts which notify you of appropriate jobs. >>Industry Access http://www.industryaccess.com.au/ IndustryAccess is an online information resource for Australian engineers, designers, specifiers, manufacturers, suppliers and users of industrial plant, equipment, components and systems. It covers all industry sectors and produces information each week on new technology, products and company news. A search engine allows you to find links to supplier websites. There is a free notice board where you can advertise equipment for sale, or positions vacant. >>Australian Greenhouse Office http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/ AVEL has just listed a range of fulltext documents from the Australian Greenhouse Office. These include guides to reducing household greenhouse gas emissions, applying for grants under the Alternative Fuel Conversion Program, the fulltext of the National Greenhouse Strategy, and reports on such topical issues as the trading of greenhouse gas permits. The site itself contains a wide range of information on sustainable transport, renewable energy and energy efficiency. Visit the site or search on AVEL to find the indexed fulltext documents. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> 4. SciTech Newsletter The latest edition of the SciTech newsletter is now available from the AVEL website at: http://avel.edu.au/sci-tech/23feb01.html This monthly newsletter is published by Stephanie Bianchi from the United States-based National Science Foundation. AVEL acts as the Australasian mirror site. It contains comprehensive information about new and interesting web sites in life sciences, computer sciences, engineering, physical sciences, geo sciences and polar sciences. Watch out for some nice humorous twists - this month the cat herding site was a particular eye-opener. <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> 5.
