AVEL's BEST OF THE BEST
AVEL contains links to only quality websites. We handpick them so that you can save time searching. That said, sometimes we find sites that deserve a special mention.

Australian Science at Work
http://www.austehc.unimelb.edu.au/asaw/

Australian Science at Work is a register of the industries, corporations, research institutions, scientific societies and other organisations that have contributed to Australia's scientific, technological and medical heritage, with references to their archival materials and a bibliography of their historical published literature. While some of the features of the site are still under construction, Australian Science at Work provides a valuable research tool which allows you to browse through the collection, and link to related online resources such as the National Archives.

Buildata
http://www.buildata.com.au/site.htm

Buildata is an Australian web site that is devoted to building products and services. Search or browse their building product library to find suppliers and products. Subscribe to the Build Oz Upd@te newsletter to be informed of the latest news from the Australian building products and services industry.

Global Journal of Engineering Education http://www.eng.monash.edu.au/uicee/gjee/globalj.htm

This free online journal is published by the UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE), based at Monash University. This web site acts as a clearinghouse for engineering education information and aims to facilitate discussion and information exchange by the international engineering education community.

Structural Engineering Society New Zealand (SESOC) http://sesoc.org.nz/Sesochome.html

The SESOC web site provides a space for information exchange and communication between structural engineers. The cleanly designed web site provides abstracts of technical, conference and discussion papers. An events calendar keeps members updated with the latest happenings.

SciTech NEWSLETTER
The latest edition of the SciTech newsletter (produced by United States-based
National Science Foundation) is now available from the AVEL website.

This month, the newsletter identifies the top research institutions in a variety of disciplines including engineering, the physical sciences and environmental sciences. The results come from a bibliometric impact study conducted by the Guardian newspaper. Vivisimo, a great new meta search tool is taken for a test drive and there are useful tips on how to find images on the Web.
