Software

AVEL and AVEL SKN both used the Hotmeta and MetaEdit (part of the MetaSuite software) software developed by the Distributed Systems Technology Centre.

The AVEL Metadata set consisted of nineteen elements. These were based on the Dublin Core standard.

Thesaurii

The AVEL Thesaurus was developed jointly by AVEL and the EEVL (Edinburgh Engineering Virtual Library). The thesaurus was loosely based on the Ei Classification developed by Engineering Information Inc and the ACM Computing Classification System. Additional Library of Congress Terms were aslo used to cover topics related to sustainability.
